Week of Jan. 9th through 13th
This week we are diving into the realm of three dimensions. I have already mentioned to most classes our assignment for this week. Here it is, again, in detail----->
Found Object Sculpture
Objective- Students will create a free standing found object sculpture that 'looks' as if it is in motion.
Resources- student's own found objects. glue. glue sticks. glue gun, tape and/or adhesives students need.
Procedures- Found object sculptures are relatively new in the old realm of art. For the most part, early on, these type of sculptures were seen as 'junk art' or work that was pushed to the fringes of 'outsider art' or 'folk art'. Nonetheless found object sculptures, for the most part, do not have to be fully representational or 'naturalistic'. In fact, the more quirky something is the more endearing it seems to be. See the below examples.
Of course, right click on the images to see and/or find the source for each artist. Most of these seem to be made out of metal. Ours does not have to be simplified to just that.
RHS Art Students can ----->
1. Art I- Found Objects sculpture
BREAKFAST
2. PLANNING
3. AP Art History- Rococo & 'The Age of Enlightenment'
4. 2D/3D- Found Objects sculpture
LUNCH
5. Advanced Art. - Found Objects sculpture
6. AP Art Studio- portfolio work.
7. New Media- Group Project- Mock Political Endorsement Ads.

Week of Jan 3rd through 6th
Whelp! New Year. With it comes, well, a new year. Couple of years ago I used to study Ancient Chinese new year customs and the animals associated with the 12 year moon cycle. I had books upon books. I read all that I could get my hands on or could read. However, 2012 has an auspicious look. We are in the year of the Water Dragon. Water in most representations is a symbol for change. Not surprisingly many other cultures views this time frame as such. Most notably, the ancient Maya. Furthermore, one doesn't need to hold any sort of doomsday theory. Water is life. Water is quench of fire or renewal pure. Anyhow, to make a long story short the winds of change are coming, for the better. Hold on, 2012 is going to be a BIG year!
We are going to start the ground running this week. We are going to jump right back in to the conceptual. With the new year comes change. For the most part, many of us partake in new resolutions. This week all studio classes will be making a drawing. This drawing will be about you. In this new year what change for the good would you like to see. Think. Nothing drole. Nothing silly. Serious.
RHS Art students can ----->
1: Art I- Change I would like to see
BREAKFAST
2: PLANNING
3: AP Art History- Baroque Art
4: 2D/3D- Change I would like to see
5: Ad. Art- Change I would like to see
6: AP Art Studio- Change I would like to see

Week of Dec. 12th through 16th
Well, we have had quite a first half of the year. This week should be just as busy as all the others. However, the term busy can be substituted for 'fun' as well. This coming friday is our BETA Variety Show. Which is always fun. I will be performing as well. Stay tuned.
This week in art will be a laid back one. Nonetheless, we all need to stay busy. AP Art History, as usual, will stay on pace for this half of the semester. AP Art Studio has their half way deadline on the 15th. The rest of our studio classes will be working on a project of their choice for their 'final' this week.
RHS Art Students can ----->
1 Art I- Final (work of your choice)
BREAKFAST- practice for BETA Variety Show
2 PLANNING
3 AP Art History- continue study into the Renaissance
4 2D/3D - Final (work of your choice)
5 Advanced Art- Final (work of your choice)

Week of December 5th through 9th
Winter break is quickly approaching. As a visual art department, we will be moving in at a pretty quick pace. Which is perfectly fine with me, I tend to work better at such a pace. Nonetheless, we will be continuing in drawing this week will ALL classes. We are doing this, because we all need it. Plus, doing life studies of certain things aids a lot of us for various reasons. This coming week we will be sketching and finishing draped cloth studies. Though they are not easy, the ideals of using and working with line, shape and value will be good for all of us. Including myself.
In AP Art History we are now on pace to enter the Renaissance before break. Which makes me quite happy. The Renaissance is when art really starts to pick up and we begin to see masters work in grand detail.
RHS Art studies can and will ------->
1 Art I- Draped cloth study. Students are to draw from life. Minimum of three sketchbook drawings and one 'finished' drawling by friday December 9th
BREAKFAST- There will be practice sessions for the BETA variety show
2 PLANNING
3 AP Art History- Continual look into Gothic/Proto-Renaissance work
4 2D/3D - Draped cloth study. Students are to draw from life. Minimum of three sketchbook drawings and one 'finished' drawling by friday December 9th
5 Advanced Art- Draped cloth study. Students are to draw/photograph from life. A minimum of three drawings or 5 shots in sketchbook. One 'finished' drawing or 2 photographs will be due by friday December 9th.
6 AP Art Studio- continue work with porfolio. Students may participate in Draped Cloth study, whether drawing or photography.
7 New Media- continue work on Claymation and commercials. Both are due December 13th.

Week of Nov. 28 through Dec. 2
Thanksgiving Break is over. It was a pretty good one for me. This coming week will be a busy one. We will be finishing up our lessons on hand built pottery. Hopefully, everything will be dry enough to fire and and we will fire on monday. Through our the week we will be glazing and finishing these vessels.
We will be jumping back into drawing a bit. The theme for this weeks drawing lesson is 'Fists & Feet'. The main goal of these drawing is to create a finished product with a bit of drawing technique involved. Most people find drawing to be some sort of magical thing that only a few people can do. This isn't the case. Drawing takes time. Especially when trying to create something representational. We'll all see after my discussion on it this week.
AP Art History will be diving in Gothic Art with the Renaissance in the near distance. Gothic Art, at times can be over looked, but in lies a grand importance to the set-up for the master's of perspective and humanistic creation.
It is unfortunate that when we think of 'gothic' we think of this --------->
Though, beautiful in it's own right. The 'modern' interpretation of Goth is a lot different.
RHS Art students can ----->
1- Art I: Students will begin the 'Fist & Feet' project
BREAKFAST
2- PLANNING
3- AP Art History: Gothic Art
4- 2D/3D: Students will begin the 'Fist & Feet' project
5- Adv. Art- Students will begin the 'Fist & Feet' project. Student may also dip into the digital realm using cameras and film. However, all work must be done at school.
6- AP Art Studio: continuing work on concentration. Students may also partake in the 'Fist & Feet' project if needed.
7- New Media: Commercials & Clay-mation.
